BRAIN AND SPINAL CORD INJURIES
|
 |

Brain Injury As a result of the powerful and forceful nature of car accidents these days, my
law firm has been frequently asked to represent clients who have suffered traumatic brain injuries and spinal cord injuries.
It is not at all unusual that following a car accident there is no visible head injury and the injured person may not even
be fully aware of the injury. Many times a traumatic brain injury causes a person to suffer cognitive deficits that
prohibit a person from understanding the true nature of their brain injury. More commonly, family members of the injured person
will be the first ones to appreciate the injured person’s loss of long term and short term memory and witness the behavioral
changes associated with traumatic brain injuries. In addition to loss of memory and behavioral changes, a traumatic brain
injury can result in depression, irritability, difficulties with speech, hearing or eyesight problems. A traumatic brain injury
can have devastating and permanent effects on the physical, emotional, and mental functioning of the injured person as well
as their family. As your attorney, I will work closely with your physicians to ensure that you are appropriately evaluated
and a proper medical diagnosis is made.

Spinal Cord Injury A spinal cord injury occurs when trauma causes damage to the spinal cord
resulting in a loss of function, including the possibility of loss of mobility and sensation. A car accident is one of the
most common causes of spinal cord injury. The powerful nature of an impact between motor vehicles traveling at high speeds
can often result in spinal cord damage. Many other types of accidents, including slip and falls, can result in spinal cord
injuries as well. Many individuals with spinal cord injuries require costly future medical care and treatment to address their
medical and emotional needs. When representing individuals with spinal cord injuries I assist accident victims and their families
come to grips with the devastation of the injury and to fully understand and pursue the legal remedies available.
